Stop Smoking Techniques That Work!
The Easy Way To Quit Smoking

3 of the Top Struggles to Stop Smoking

Most people can readily agree that the idea to quit smoking is rather terrifying. Giving up the comfort that smoking can provide is not easy, nor can it be done instantly. Struggling to quit requires a lot of honest talks, not only with yourself but also with your family. There are three major struggles that you will encounter as you are working to quit smoking. Being fully aware of these struggles will help you to create a plan to quit smoking for good that can help you to overcome these difficulties and emerge in better health as a non-smoker.

Struggle number one is going to find you looking temptation right in the eye. There is simply no other way to put it. Everywhere you look cigarettes and more cigarettes. The number of people who smoke is astonishing, and when you are trying to stop smoking it seems like the number is quadrupling around you. While it is nothing more than your mind playing tricks on you, it can still be rather difficult to overlook all of the temptation and still stick to your plan to quit smoking.

Anytime you find yourself overwhelmed by temptation you need to walk away. If you are at your job and cannot simply walk away, you need to develop a stress relieving strategy to fall back on which can help you to ignore the cigarettes that you see. To really help you avoid temptation you need to work at finding a place where you can eat your lunch away from the smokers and other temptations. Always be on the lookout because they are around, and if you slip up they will be there to lure you back into smoking rather quickly.

Your second struggle will be all of the questions that you are asked. Your friends and family of course are happy for you that you are quitting smoking. However, everyone is going to ask you why. This simple question starts to look like a huge issue after the third time you are asked why. Rather than allowing this tiny question to start eating at your resolve you need to ensure you are dedicated to quitting. If you start second guessing your reason to quit each time someone asks you why you are quitting then you really need to sit down and have a long conversation with yourself. Unless you are personally 100% behind your efforts, you will not succeed. You have to believe in the reason you are quitting smoking.

Your family will be there for you no matter what reason you choose. It is yourself that you have to convince, and this means that you need a good argument and reason. Nobody will ever argue with you as much as you will argue with yourself. When you are attempting something like quitting smoking the nagging side of yourself comes out strong as well.

A final consideration is looking at all of the products on the market to help you quit smoking. This might seem strange but this huge selection can be a big problem. You need to determine why you smoke in order to select the best product for your desire to quit. If you are a smoker because of stress, you need to resolve the stress. If you smoke due to nicotine addiction then you should look into slowly pulling off of the nicotine using either a patch, or possibly the gum.

Regardless of the reason you smoke, there is a product that is designed to help you. Finding the best product for your specific needs is not impossible, but it will force you to be brutally honest with yourself. If you are just completely unable to find the exact reason why you smoke try to start finding something else to do with your hands and mouth anytime you have the urge to smoke. For example, a stress ball and a piece of gum could be all you need. If you are smoking because you are bored, giving yourself something to do, even just squeezing a stress ball might be the release that you need to walk away a successful non-smoker.

7 Tips to Controlling Your Urge to Smoke

Trying to quit smoking is a very lengthy process. This can take a very long period of time such as several years, or it could be something much shorter like only a few weeks or months. The exact time frame that it takes to quit can vary greatly but what is important is ensuring that you are coming up with a plan to combat your urges to smoke. At some point in your experience trying to quit you will encounter a situation where the urge to smoke is very strong. How you handle this situation will go a long way towards your ultimate success. Being prepared for the urge to smoke will ensure that you have a plan to keep your willpower strong and continue on your path to quit smoking successfully.

Tip 1. Take the time to decide exactly when you typically smoke. For example, after meals, after a jog around the block, or even after your shower each morning. Knowing when you typically smoke will put you in a good position to create a plan to combat the urge.

Tip 2. Create a plan of attack. This could be something as simple as a stress ball for your hands, or even just a piece of hard candy to keep your mouth busy. If you really enjoy the taste and feeling of a clean mouth you could try brushing your teeth each time you want to smoke, or suck on a mint flavored candy, which will freshen your breath.

Tip 3. Avoid the temptations that lurk. If you go out to eat, make sure you are sitting in the no smoking area. Avoid going into tobacco stores, and also try to limit the amount of time you are around other smokers. If you are continuously around cigarettes, it will be much harder to resist temptation.

Tip 4. Clean your house of all smoking instruments. This means all ashtrays, lighters, matches and get rid of the smell of cigarettes. Products like Febreeze are great for helping to get rid of cigarette smell, which can also trigger an urge to smoke.

Tip 5. If you have a place where you typically smoke when you are at home, think about rearranging the area. If you are able to break the routine of the situation, you will be able to resist temptation much better. This works best if you always are in the habit of smoking in the exact same place, such as a living room looking out a window. If you move the chair to a different area of the room, or refocus the center of the room then you can help to avoid the temptation to smoke whenever you are sitting in the chair looking out the window.

Tip 6. Write down your goal to quit smoking. This may seem like a minor detail but in reality, it can go a very long way towards ensuring that you keep your priority to quit smoking at the top of your agenda. If you just tell yourself that you want to quit smoking, you are more likely to cheat and ultimately give into the urge to light up again. If you have written your goal down, you are going to be more likely to actually follow it. This goes for quitting smoking, losing weight, changing your exercise routine or anything else. Written down goals can improve accountability significantly.

Tip 7. Do not discount yourself. If you are absolutely certain that you can succeed you will be much more capable of the success that you need. It is important to believe that you can succeed. This will help you to stay strong anytime a serious urge kicks in. If you decide to slip up consciously, you are going to find it is much harder to gain back any slack that you have cut for yourself. However, if you hold fast to your dedication to quit smoking you will find that each time you have an urge it is easier to handle.

Why You Need to Stop Smoking for Good

With all of the negative effects that smoking has, it is amazing to see just how many people still smoke. Aside from the physical effects, there are plenty of other reasons why smoking is not such a good idea, but it is very important to actually take advantage of these reasons when you are looking for reasons to quit smoking. Simply quitting on a whim might sound nice, but it will rarely be successful and often leaves you upset and saddened that you have not achieved the results that you really want.

Looking at your health there are some immediate reasons why smoking is bad. With the risk of lung cancer, heart problems, cancer of the larynx and even a severely increased risk of heart attack or stroke. Just listening to all of the potential health problems is enough to scare some people so badly that they never pick up another pack of cigarettes again. Those who still continue to smoke either feel that they cannot stop, or they are just unable to stop because they are so badly addicted to the idea of smoking.

Breaking free of cigarettes is never easy. Looking at yourself as a smoker, is this the type of image that you would like to pass onto your children? Most people who smoke admit that they would be incredibly upset or at the least disappointed if their children chose to smoke. If you are continuously smoking in front of them, what type of example are you really setting though? The sad reality is parents who smoke are much more likely to have children who smoke. It is essential that you work diligently to help your children avoid smoking by quitting yourself.

Many smokers find that they have a problem with their health that creates a serious need to quit smoking. It is often too late that they decide to quit. The damage has already been done to their health; the consequences are often giving up their life, rather than just a pack of cigarettes. Making this sacrifice is something that most people are honestly not willing to make, but it happens almost every day.

Deciding that you are ready to quit is a personal decision that has to come from your heart. You cannot allow someone else to force the decision to quit on you, but at the same time if you fail to listen to warnings from your doctors you are well aware that you are doing serious damage to your body. Failing to take these dangers into account can have a very devastating effect on your entire body, as well as your family. This can be quite heartbreaking to many families, which can make it extremely stressful for your family and yourself, in turn making it harder to quit.

If you are looking at your lifestyle and your family and trying to decide the one thing you could do to seriously improve your overall life the answer is simple. If you quit smoking for good you can make a huge improvement for your health, and you can also show your family that you deeply care about them all at the same time. Your family relies on you, for guidance, mental support and even for love. Taking the time to really decide why you want to quit for yourself is very important to the success.

10 Tips to Stop Smoking for Good

With so many tips and suggestions on how to stop smoking it is really easy to see why so many people really do not quit. The vast majority of people are completely confused by the entire process! What of the conflicting messages passed around? The fact is that with so much information passed around that is confusing to people it is often much easier to just continue smoking and hoping for a simple solution. Actually taking the necessary steps to really quit smoking is not easy. It means coming to terms with the fact that stopping smoking really is best for you, as well as your health.

Most people are readily aware that stopping smoking can improve their health, but learning how to really conquer the urges to smoke is not easy. With so many temptations circulating around, as well as the stresses of daily life it is easy to see why jumping into a pack of cigarettes seems like a good idea.

Tip #1 You need a good reason to quit. Simply deciding to quit because the sky is blue is not a sufficient reason. The need to quit smoking is obvious, but the desire to quit needs to come from inside in order for the process to be successful.

Tip #2 Look for small rewards that you can give yourself as you make progress. You are not likely to just quit cold turkey with no complications. Set up small rewards that will help you to want to make progress towards ultimately quitting. This can be a great motivation to keep you on target.

Tip #3 Plan out your quitting strategy. Decide how you want to try to quit and stick to it. Set a specific amount of time for your plan. If after a time, say six weeks you have not quit, work on a new plan. This will allow ample time to try each method, while still giving yourself flexibility to try something else.

Tip #4 Work to overcome your struggles. If you are smoking due to stressful things in your life, you need to deal with the stress before you can successfully quit. Regardless of the reason why you are smoking, it needs to be dealt with in able to quit for good.

Tip #5 Set up a punishment for yourself. For example, if you generally stop at Starbucks each day for a coffee you might consider skipping that on days when you have fallen short of your goals for smoking. Whatever punishment you select, make sure it is something that you care about.

Tip #6 Seek out help from your friends and family. You need support as you are trying to quit, and this will help you to ensure that you are not alone in the entire process.

Tip #7 Look for someone to quit with you. If you are entirely on your own, you are going to be much more likely to slip back into smoking. If someone is working with you and holding you accountable, you are more likely to struggle to succeed. Working to quit smoking is not easy, but hard tasks are much easier to accomplish with a partner.

Tip #8 Ensure you are getting plenty of sleep. The job of quitting smoking is quite difficult. If you are not getting the rest you need, you are much more likely to be cranky, upset and angry with the world. This is very counterproductive to your goal of quitting smoking for good.

Tip #9 Aim to quit for good. This might seem a bit strange, but if you are just planning to quit for a weekend you are not going to put much effort into the process. If you are planning to quit for good, a lot more time and effort is going to go into the process as well as your plan to quit.

Tip #10 Look for ways to take your mind off cigarettes. If you are always thinking about cigarettes, you may find that you are much more tempted to smoke. Reading a book, exercising, talking on the phone, surfing the internet and even cooking are all great ways to occupy your mind and keep from thinking about when your last cigarette was.

Breaking the Habit of Smoking

Working to quit smoking is one of the hardest things that many people ever do in their life. The reasons that it is so difficult typically vary. The one reason that is most often cited is the habit of smoking itself is extremely hard to break. The task then becomes trying to break the habit, and instead give yourself a much healthier habit to hang onto. After all, it took you a while to get into the habit of smoking so reason stands that it will take a while to break the habit.

If you are determined to quit smoking, you have made an impressive start. However, if you have decided to quit on your own, you are doing even better. Sounds strange does it? You would be surprised at just how many people “decide” to quit smoking by being informed by their doctor, spouse, parent, sibling or friend that they will be quitting. In order to successfully quit smoking for good you need to decide for yourself to quit. If you have actually made this decision on your own, you are doing an amazing job. If you are letting someone push you into quitting you are just setting yourself up for headaches, hassles and complications that are easily avoided.

As a smoker, you have no doubt developed a pattern to your smoking. For example, if you are a typical one pack a day smoker one of your habits is to smoke a pack a day. You need to take small steps to break these habits. Perhaps you will find best luck in simply changing your habits slowly. For example, if you typically smoke a cigarette after each meal, you might find it helpful to brush your teeth. This can have the effect of providing a fresh mouth that you do not want to dirty with cigarette taste. You might find that after each meal you need to try chewing a piece of gum, sucking on hard candy or even attempting nicotine gum.

If there are any specific circumstances that always trigger a cigarette craving, you should work to avoid the situation. If it is something that you absolutely cannot avoid, such as dinner times, you need to create an alternative habit that you replace smoking with. For example, if you always smoke as soon as you get to your car after work, you might want to consider carpooling with someone who does not smoke, taking a different route home, stopping for groceries, jamming to some music or even taking a bus. Anything you can do to shake up your normal smoking routine is good.

There will of course be times that it is quite difficult to break the habits. If you find yourself in a position where you cannot avoid a typical smoking situation, you need to create a way to deal with it. Some people use nicotine gum whenever they are faced with a smoking situation. Others find that the stop smoking sticks are beneficial. These sticks can allow you to hold a pretend cigarette that just provides your hands with something to do. If you find these quite useful then you know that your problem is your hands are idle, finding something for your hands to do might help a lot.

Trying to quit is a very difficult process. Many people take weeks if not months to quit smoking completely. If you are struggling far too much with the idea of completely quitting at once you may find it is much better for your own situation to slowly cut back on your cigarette consumption. Regardless of the precise method that you choose, it can take a minimum of 2 weeks to start adapting new habits. This means that any new behavior you adopt in your quest to stop smoking must be repeated continuously for at least two weeks before you will start to see a real difference in your lifestyle. Giving yourself plenty of time to work on your new habits is essential and will set you on the road to success.

Expert Electronic Cigarettes: Think Different

Do you think ecigs lack the same feel as smoking a traditional cigarette? Ready for something new? Maybe it’s time to think outside the box. The average person thinks of an e-cig as a little device that looks a lot like a regular cigarette. However, there is an entire world out there of advanced devices that in no way resemble cigarettes.

Typical ecigs are designed to help transition folks from smoking to using the electronic version. People naturally gravitate toward the familiar, so a cigarette shaped product which lit up and smoked like the real thing without some of the health risks associated with smoking seemed like a viable option. If you make things look the same, the transition is that much more simple to make.

But with higher demand and ecigs becoming more and more popular, times have changed. The traditional brands that look like real cigarettes are typically cartridge based. The advantage of the traditional style e-cig is that you just screw on a cartridge and use the device. Being disposable, it can start to get very expensive constantly replacing old cartridges.

There are new products on the market that do not resemble their predecessors at all, and offer a better value and performance than the traditional ecigs. Most advanced e-cig types are based off of flavored liquid nicotine in place of the disposable cartridge based traditional type.

With extended battery power that can last for several days on a single charge based on use, and liquid easily refillable, these more advanced options are a more realistic vaping experience for heavy smokers making the switch. A few of the most popular units include:

  • Vari-Box
  • SD Screwdriver
  • Lavatube
  • ProVari
  • Roughstack

Higher start-up costs compared to those of the traditionally shaped e-cig may act as a deterrent at first – until you realize what these strange looking electronic cigarettes can do. Available in either manual or automatic versions (automatic meaning that the battery is engaged when the user takes a “puff” as opposed to manual, which requires the push of a button) these more advanced brands offer one heck of a wallop. I know of a great article about the capabilities of advanced models. You can read it at this link.

The user is free to select their nicotine content in the cartridges used by the advanced personal vaporizers. You can have as much or as little as you like. With many brands sporting a see-through refillable liquid attachment to the atomizer, smokers can see exactly how much liquid remains in the e-cig and estimate how long it will be before a requiring a refill.

Although start-up kits or bundles start between $80-100 verses the $6 disposable brands at the gas station or $20 start-up packs in a traditional cigarette shape, the difference in price is understandable considering how much you get for your money. Many advanced kits include everything you need including batteries, chargers, e-liquid and cartomizers. There’s no need to buy extra packs of cartriges right away.

The advanced age of vaping and ecigs is only just beginning with more and more products sure to soon hit the market. Advanced personal vaporizers are more than just a tiny cigarette replica. There are so many styles to choose from and e-liquid flavors to try out. Best of all, advanced personal vaporizers can save you money in the long run!

How To Be A Savvy E-cigarette Buyer

So you want to learn about ecigs? You are in good company! However, there can be danger lurking on the web if you aren’t prepared.

The good news is there are a lot of excellent e-cigarette websites for research. Unfortunately, not every site has your best interests at heart.

The e-cigarette market is expanding faster than anyone could have imagined. Estimates put users of the gear in the US at about 1 million. The rapid growth means that a new e-cigarette company pops up at least every day. There are also hundreds of e-cigarette review sites and blogs. Many of the sites are run by e-cigarette enthusiasts. These sites are great sources of unbiased information. To see what I’m talking about check out http://www.stevevape.com.

But, for each good site there are dozens of sites that are only interested in advertising. Many sites even claim to have honest reviews, or user submitted reviews. But, are they telling you the truth?

Some sites are obviously shams with no integrity. Others are very cleverly written and look very professional. In most cases, there are warning signs even in the very slick sites. If you know where to look, you won’t be fooled.

When looking through reviews, keep these things in mind:

  • Does the articles list both the pros and cons?
  • Are there outrageous claims of health benefits?
  • Is there variety in the types of articles on the site?

E-cigarettes are a fantastic way to find out what’s on the market. You need to be careful that the site you’re reading makes sense to you personally.

When you’re browsing sites, keep a few questions in the back of your mind. These will help you decide if the site is providing you with good information. Does the site just stick to a handful of starter kits or are there a variety of brands and models of devices? What about articles that aren’t reviews? If a site has just a few pages of product reviews, that might be a concern.

Always look at a few different sites. Compare a known good or known bad site to the one you’re browsing. If there’s not a lot of variation there, you should ask yourself why.

Look at the reviews. Are they descriptive? Do you feel you understand how the product works? Also, check any review website is honest regarding its business motivations in a product review. Do they say that they make money if you buy a given product? There’s nothing wrong with that, but they should be transparent about it. Also, it’s a good sign that a site (like the one above) reviews products whether or not there is any financial gain.

Is the author active? Does he or she answer reader questions in the post comments? Do they even allow comments?

Lastly, be wary of any site that makes exaggerated claims. Be very cautious of excessive health claims. A claim that a given product is the best thing for everyone should be taken with a big pinch of salt.

Setting aside a little time to evaluate e-cigarette review websites online may be the key strategy to help make a smart purchase in the end.

How Do I Quit Smoking Plus Precisely what Techniques Do you Take

How Do I Quit Smoking

The next step is to walk out and take advantage of all the help that’s available to you personally. The world is full of countless ex-smokers who’re walking, breathing proof that you could stop. Many had some help such as group support, a pure nicotine substitution program or perhaps an addiction treatment facility.

Yes, you can stop cold turkey but why would you want to? Preliminary success with this technique generally ends with a return to cigarette smoking inside 12 months. In fact, some research shows that only 5% of those that stop without help continue to be smoke-free beyond that point.

No ex-smokers are going to lie, however and explain how quitting is simple. It isn’t easy at all. However, the battle could be more easily won if you gather together an arsenal of useful tools. One of the best tools against smoking addiction is knowledge.

There are several great, informational sites out there that are packed with accurate, informative bits of information to assist using the procedure for quitting. For example, how do I quit smoking offers an assortment of useful tips, sound advice and a lot of encouragement. You’ll also find fascinating data dependant on investigation.

It seems contradictory to advocate nicotine gum, patches or inhalants to get rid of a nicotine addiction. Needless to say, the main purpose is to control what could be unpleasant smoking withdrawal signs and symptoms by providing a path of gradual decline. While weaning yourself from smoking, you have to work on identifying and transforming the emotional associations.

It’s likely you have to momentarily avoid certain places as long as they were locations in which you would usually light up for a smoke. If you had a cigarette with your hot coffee, switch to rejuvenating cold liquid instead. If the urge hits, play a favorite track while focusing on the words. Studies show that those urges last for a short time. The urge should be gone by the time the song ends.

Let’s be honest. The majority of smokers claim they can take pleasure in cigarette smoking and that is really true. However, it isn’t because smoking tastes good or provides anything good in your daily life. It takes only 7 seconds for pure nicotine to arrive at the brain. Then, it triggers the enjoyment receptors that fool you into believing that you’re more relaxed and life is all of a sudden better. Regrettably, it’s actually a lie. Nicotine is a highly-addictive stimulant that will only cause harm. It may even kill you.

Chantix is definitely the modern day, technological tool which will give you a useful edge. It works by way of brain chemical make up. Chantix turns on your brain’s smoking (pleasure) receptors while obstructing the effects of the smoking. This means that your smoking urges are slowly reduced. Because the cravings lessen, you’ll get to the stage where you can actually stop totally. Put Chantix as part of your toolbox to help you combat your smoking addiction. Smoking is not something really worth dying for. Become a smoke-free winner! You can do it! More information on how do I quit smoking here

The Top 5 Biggest Carto Trends

It’s amazing what difference a year can make. The changes to cartomizers alone in the past year are astounding! There are more cartomizer variations than anyone can keep track of. Writing as many reviews about e-cigarettes as I have gives me some insight into the market. As I watch the market, I’ve been starting to pick up on certain trends and patterns.

Let’s try and cut through the confusion and dissect the top 5 e-cigarette cartomizer trends in the market.

5. Variations of the Clear Cartomizer
The CE2 clearomizer itself is a fairly new entrant in the e-cigarette industry. This was a radical new design. It featured a clear tube and the heating element located at the top, rather than the bottom of the device. The first variations on the CE2 design were merely longer “XL” devices.

In the last few months alone, there have been a number of innovative riffs on the original design. Makers such as SmokTech and newcomer Vision got in the game with radical takes on the traditional CE2 design.

Many of the new riffs on the CE2 focus on higher capacity, but usually also bring a little more to the table such as tips that prevent e-liquid from flowing out through the drip tip. Other clear cartomizers get away from the CE2 engine completely.

Even traditional cartomizers with filler material have gotten in on the action, from dual coil cartomizers, to the SmokTech Resurrector cartomizers. I think it’s pointless to put a clear exterior on a cartomizer filled with stuffing. What exactly are you supposed to see in there? There are of course more radical cartomizer designs out there now. Take for example:

4. Horizontal Coil Cartomizers
Bottom horizontal coil cartomizers seem to be all the rage now. The new models depart considerably from the venerable CE2 cartomizer. The next model up from the CE2, the CE3 is one such cartomizer.

These types of cartomizers use a coil situated at the bottom of the tube with the coil encased in some type of housing that allows liquid to reach the coils via a wick protruding through the housing. The first of these on the market was the G4 followed shortly by the Vortex from GotVapes.

Reviews and initial consumer reaction to the first wave of these devices were tepid at best. Much like the original CE2, improvements over time will likely settle out this style of cartomizer. The second and third generation devices have been in the hands of consumers for a while now.

Don’t think these innovations are limited to clearomizers. Many traditional cartomizers are starting to rotate their coils 90 degrees as well. One of the first companies to try this out was Kanger.. V2 Cigs well-reviewed new cartomizers are one example of this design.

3. Larger Cartomizers
Apparently the idea of bigger is better holds true in the e-cigarette industry. The original cartomizer designs held somewhere between half and 1 ml of e-liquid. Next came the 1.5ml XL cartomizer.

That size no longer counts as XL. Almost daily someone comes out with a bigger cartomizer. The first escalation was to the giant CE2s which held 2.5ml. It wasn’t long before 3ml cartomizers came out. Right after that came cartos that held 5ml of e-liquid. CE2s aren’t the only type of cartomizer supersizing these days. There are giant versions of CE2s (the eGo W and Vision), large and gigantic dual coil cartomizers and just about every thing else you can think of.

2. Carto Tanks
This kind of goes along with the bigger is better thing. Tanks let users cart around a day’s worth of e-liquid in one shot. The tank is one of those devices that can trace its roots back to the hobby scene.

The 3ml (and 5ml) mods were based on the CE2 engine, as were some of the original tanks sold at retail, like the Storm Tank. More variations of the CE2 tank hit the market ranging in capacity from identical to an XL CE2 to the massive 9ml Juice Jar.

Eventually someone decided that if you stuck holes in a traditional cartomizer you could stick that in a tank and it would work too. This led to a new line of tanks based around fillered cartomizers like the Big Daddy tank. Now big companies like Smoktech produce very inexpensive cartomizer tanks.

1. Dual Coil Cartomizers
For the most part all those tanks come with a dual coil cartomizer. That goes to show just how popular DCCs are. Dual coils seemed like a gimmick at first. However, dual coils cartomizers are one of the most popular e-cigarette technologies on the market.

Dual coil cartomizers feature two heating coils run in parallel to provide more heat. Pretty much every store carries them. Fans of the devices rave about their ability to produce large amounts of warm vapor. The cartomizer is so popular you can find it in a huge range of styles.

Summation
Cartomizers have taken off in terms of variety lately. There is no sign the innovation will stop anytime soon. Not every new cartomizer design will be great. But they probably will be interesting. E Cigarettes – Slicing Through The Tech Phrases

I have a lot of experience writing about electric cigarettes. And I have gotten a lot of questions from readers. The most common thing I get asked is about the technical details behind ecigs. Voltage, resistance (ohms), amps, mAh are all confusing topics. To be honest, I tend to get confused by them myself. I’m no engineer. Therefore, if you find something wrong, be sure to let me know!

The Technical Jargon
While not limited to these terms, the most common words tossed out there with regards to e-cigarettes are:

  • Amperage
  • mAh
  • Voltage
  • Resistance (ohms)

Spot the Outlier
The first of these bullet points I want to hit is the term mAh. Ok, so I probably should have put mAh on the list first. Back to the point. The abbreviation mAh is short for miliamp hours. This term doesn’t fit in quite like the other terms. The other terms like voltage and resistance work together to determine how much power an e-cigarette outputs. On the other hand, mAh is not at all related to how much power your e-cigarette generates.

Battery capacity is indicated by mAh, not the actual power output of the electronic cigarette. Battery life is what is indicated by the mAh rating. Quite simply put, the higher the mAh rating, the longer you can expect your battery to go between recharges.

The number does fit in with the rest of the terms in one regard. The more strain you put on the battery in terms of higher wattage, the quicker you will drain the battery.

Wattage is the Key
The rest of the terms all have a sort of symbiotic relationship. The overall picture that puzzle puts together is wattage. Wattage is just the measure of how much heat gets applied to the e-liquid.

To start with voltage is the measure of energy output from the e-cigarette’s battery. Ohms is the measure of resistance. This measurement identifies how easily current can pass through your e-cigarettes atomizer.

Generally, electronic cigarette companies focus on the individual factors of resistance and voltage rather than wattage. This is probably an artifact from the early days of electronic cigarettes where there wasn’t a lot of choice in the market. The original electronic cigarettes only really came in one type. There was no selection of different voltages or resistances available as there are today.

Someone eventually figured out if you change some of the variables, you could alter the vapor output. Lower the resistance and you get more vapor. Similarly, some pioneers started experimenting with higher output batteries. Increasing the voltage also increased the vapor production.

Both methods yield the same results: more vapor.

Combining voltage and resistance gives you a device’s output in watts. This formula is known as Ohm’s law.

That may be an over simplification. There are, in fact, four different factors that determine the wattage of a device. Fortunately, you only need to know two of the four components to calculate watts. Like voltage and resistance for example (how convenient!). You could do it in your head, but I prefer to use an Ohm’s law calculator.

Really, all this complex math boils down to a simple concept. What determines the amount and temperature of your vapor is the amount of power you apply to the e-liquid via the heating coils.

You can either decrease the resistance or increase the wattage. Either way, you get the same result. Higher wattage.

Within Reason
There’s a couple of things that sort of limit how far you can take the wattage. First is the e-liquid itself. There is only so much heat your e-liquid can handle. Get it too hot and it will burn, leaving a nasty taste behind. There’s also personal preferences at play. In addition to increased vapor, you will be increasing the heat. Eventually you’ll reach the point where the vapor is too hot.

The final factor in the electronics puzzle is amperage. Amperage is the actual amount of current running through the circuit. The circuits in your e-cigarette as well as the battery cell itself can only take so much amperage. Exceeding that limit will cause your e-cigarette to shut down to protect itself (and you). If that protection fails, the battery will be damaged or even cause damage itself.

2.5 ams is the most common setting for protection circuits. For example, if you were using a 1.5Ω cartomizer on a Lavatube which has a 2.5A limit, you’ll be limited to around 3.7v before the protection circuitry kicks in. With that combination, you’re looking at around 9 watts of power.

Actually, dual coils are probably a bad example. They don’t operate quite like other devices. They have two heating coils wired together. Each individual coil is designed at twice the resistance of the overall rating of the cartomizer. This means there are two 3.0 ohm coils in each one. Their performance is a little unexpected as they are still limited by amperage but perform well when driven at higher voltages. I use dual coil cartomizers on my high-end variable voltage e-cigarette which can support 3.5 amp loads at 5v and am pleased with the results.
